As for its habitat, the very distant relative of exotic lizards is not demanding: it lives on the edges of forests, mountainous and rocky areas up to 1800 meters of altitude and wet meadows, but often also enters artificial settlements.

According to nature conservation experts, the colorful green lizard has appeared in increasing numbers at the foot of the Mecsek in recent years.

It’s no coincidence that slopes dotted with trees or bushes are a favorite type of habitat, with many ideal places to eat and sunbathe.

The largest lizard species in Hungary can have a body length of up to 40 centimeters, of which 60 percent is the tail that tapers gradually.
