The Russian army has tested the T-14 Armata tank in Syria, said Russian Industry and Commerce Minister Genyis Manturov. Use the Syrian battlefield to test Russia’s weapons.

Manturov said the new tanks were transferred to Syria to “weigh every detail under combat conditions,” which will help shape the final look. The minister said that the serial delivery of the tank to the army will begin next year.

He recognized that the T-14 is an expensive tank equipped with state-of-the-art technology, which is due in part to the fact that it is still being tested and upgraded. However, in his opinion, the price will decrease during series production.

He said the export version will also be licensed in 2021 and that negotiations with foreign clients will begin. According to Manturov, there is a preliminary interest in the tank despite the fact that the Russian side cannot deliver the complete documentation of the tank to foreign customers.

Yuri Borisov, Russia’s deputy prime minister in charge of the military industry, said in July 2018 that the Russian army did not plan to obtain armies en masse due to high production costs, but preferred to increase the combat capabilities of existing military equipment. He said at the time that the number of tanks featured in the Red Parade military parade would cost 250 million rubles (about 1.1 billion forints).

Based on the Armata heavy track platform, the T-14 tank was equipped with an unmanned gun turret and state-of-the-art equipment on board. The designers placed the crew in an isolated armored ammunition pod. Testing on the equipment was completed in November 2018, according to previous press reports.

In Interfax background material, he stated that the fundamentally new and exclusively Russian Armata belongs to the third generation of tanks after the war. Currently there is nothing like it in the world.

In August 2017, Borisov said that Russia had tested more than 600 types of weapons and military equipment in Syria. “Practically every new type, every novelty has gone through the Syrian conflict, so we have the opportunity to see what its realistic qualities are, how the weapons behave,” he stressed.

He said that the Russian army had tested new aircraft equipment, new firearms, missile launch systems, armored vehicles and other new devices. He added that representatives of military companies are constantly present at the Hmejimima air base.
