In the video, the head of the ministry emphasized, among other things, that the coronavirus vaccine was not an ideological issue for Hungary, and that the purchase of Chinese and Russian vaccines helped a lot to speed up vaccination in Hungary. According to data from Sunday, more than 1.5 million Hungarians have already been vaccinated, which would not have been possible if they had not decided to also vaccinate from the East.
About 700,000 Hungarians received one of the oriental vaccines as their first vaccination, so it is easy to calculate how much worse we would be if we had not bought Chinese and Russian vaccines, he said.
Péter Szijjártó put it:
the vaccine is not an ideological question for us, (…) and if we had not contracted the purchase of Chinese and Russian vaccines, we would not have been able to save the health and lives of so many Hungarians.
He also noted that Hungarian experts, the Hungarian regulatory authority, authorized the use of Sputnik V in view of the emergency. According to Péter Szijjártó, it was a big mistake to ask an ideological question about the vaccine in other parts of Europe. Now more and more Western European leaders are talking openly about adding Sputnik to the list of approved vaccines, he noted.
He also said that the number of new infections in Europe is growing exponentially and that if the vaccination process is not accelerated, people’s lives and health, as well as the state of the economy, will be endangered.
In Hungary, about 9-10 thousand people are infected every day, the number of deaths exceeds two hundred per day. The economy loses more than 30 million euros (about 11 billion guilders) a day due to the restrictions. he said.
Peter Szijjártó said that if they can increase the number of vaccines in the country and speed up the vaccination process, “we will win big.”
