The new coronavirus infection (COVID-19) was detected in 4,709 new Hungarian citizens, thus increasing the number of infected people in Hungary to 99,625. 103 chronic patients, mostly elderly, have died, bringing the number of victims to 2,250 and 23,213 have already recovered. The number of actively infected people is 74,162. 25% of the actively infected, 30% of the victims and 28% of those recovered are from Budapest. 5,489 coronavirus patients are hospitalized, 391 of whom are on ventilators.
The number of infected people is growing exponentially across Europe, in neighboring countries and in Hungary, with more and more people requesting hospital care. The epidemic cannot be stopped, the goal is to stop the epidemic.
Therefore, in order to further strengthen the fight against the epidemic, the government reestablished the state of emergency, that is, declared a state of emergency. This is important because the state of emergency, as it did now in the first wave, allows the government to act quickly. The government asks Parliament to extend the extraordinary legal order by 90 days, and has already presented a proposal in this regard to parliament.
The government is asking citizens to cooperate in implementing emergency measures related to the emergency. Everyone has to follow the rules, there is enormous individual responsibility. In Hungary, everyone has a hospital bed, healthcare, a ventilator and, with the protection measures already in place, the goal is to keep it that way. Protective measures are aimed at curbing the epidemic and this also protects health care performance.
Due to the extraordinary epidemic situation, the government is operating in a new order: the Operational Tribunal meets with the Prime Minister at six in the morning every other day, and the Extraordinary Law Action Group has resumed its work.
There is a night curfew restriction. Everyone must be at their place of residence, stay or accommodation between midnight and 5 am. Exceptions to this are if someone leaves their place of residence for work, transportation to the workplace, transportation from the workplace to their place of residence, place of residence or accommodation, or in case of danger to health, danger to life or serious damage and protection of life.
To reduce the spread of the epidemic, free parking has re-emerged, and in Budapest, as well as in cities with county status, a company providing local public transport services is obliged to prepare a flight compression plan for the periods between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. on weekdays and between 15 pm and 7 pm.
The government has also decided to close nightclubs and from now on it will only be possible to sit in every third armchair at events, sporting events, cinemas and theaters and wearing a mask is mandatory. In addition, masks are still mandatory in shops, public transport, social and health facilities, restaurants, etc.
The police strictly monitor compliance with the rules, impose fines and close places where regulations are not followed.
To protect the Hungarian people, the government is negotiating a coronavirus vaccine on several fronts so that the Hungarian people have access to the vaccine as soon as possible.
In order to slow the spread of the community, we will continue to avoid places where there are a lot of people inside, preferably keep social distance, wash your hands frequently and thoroughly. Anyone who has received an official home quarantine order for a stay abroad or for any other reason must strictly comply. Anyone with symptoms should not go into the community but should stay home and notify their GP by phone. Hospitals are prepared for the increased workload and all patients needing hospital care have access to beds and hospital care. At this stage of defense, it is particularly important to protect the performance of hospitals, which is why strict adherence to security measures is important.
Free flu vaccines are already being given as part of health protection. The provision of influenza vaccines to GPs is ongoing.
The protection of elderly and chronic patients is of the utmost importance. Older people are also asked to pay close attention to themselves and general precautions. Visiting hospitals and nursing homes is prohibited. And nursing home owners should do everything they can to prevent infection. If a focal point takes place in a social institution or anywhere else in the community, the epidemiological deployment unit will take the necessary actions.
Currently, the Operational Staff ordered extraordinary breaks in 98 kindergartens and 7 schools, and digital work schedules in 78 classes and 23 schools.
In addition to maintaining health protection, the government is working on additional economic and family protection measures.
