Hulu has opted for the rights to Curtis Sittenfeld’s alternative history book “Rodham”, which takes place in a world where Hillary Rodham never married Bill Clinton.
The series is described as the story of an ambitious young woman, who developed her extraordinary mind in the latter part of the 20th century, moving from idealism to cynicism and all the way back.
Sarah Treem is in charge of executive writing and producing the project. Executive producer of “The Handmaid’s Tale”, Warren Littlefield, will also be executive producer of “Rodham” through The Littlefield Company along with Sittenfeld. Fox 21 Television Studios, where Littlefield is under general agreement, will produce.
If the show goes to the series, it would be the second Hillary Clinton-focused project Hulu has aired. The serpentine premiered the four-part “Hillary” docuserie in March. That series outlined her 2016 presidential campaign while delving into the events of her past that shaped her life.
“Rodham” was originally published in May and became a New York Times bestseller. Sittenfeld’s other books include “You Think I’ll Say It”, “Eligible”, “Sisterland” and “American Wife”.
Treem was previously the co-creator and showrunner in Showtime’s critically acclaimed series “The Affair”. His other credits include “In Treatment”, “House of Cards” and “How to Make it in America”. Variety It was exclusively reported in May that the Gal Gadot-directed series on Hedy Lamarr, which Treem will executive write and produce, has been created at Apple with a direct order for the series. Littlefield is also an executive producer on that project.
