Here’s what you need to know July 22, 2020


The number of confirmed cases of the coronavirus (COVID-19) in Michigan has risen to 75,248 as of Wednesday, including 6,141 deaths, state officials report.

Wednesday’s update represents 523 new cases and six additional deaths. Tuesday’s totals were 74,725 confirmed cases and 6,135 total deaths.

Tracking Trends in Michigan Hospitalization Data COVID-19

The number of inpatients at the COVID-19 hospital in Michigan has steadily increased since early July. However, the volume is much lower than in April when Michigan reported nearly 4,000 patients hospitalized with COVID-19.

On July 21, Michigan reported 500 hospitalized patients, the highest number since June 4.

Judge: Detroit summer school classroom classes may continue virus testing

A judge ruled that in-person summer school classes may continue in the Detroit Public Schools Community District (DPSCD). Local 4 and ClickOnDetroit are working to get a reaction on the district’s ruling.

Summer school at DPSCD started last week. Parents, teachers, students, and an activist group filed a BAMN lawsuit against the district. The lawsuit sought to soak up the summer school and was filed with the judge on Friday with the decision scheduled this week.

While the judge ruled that classes can continue, all students who attend those classes must take the COVID-19 tests in the next two days or the in-person learning could be closed.

St. Clair County Officials Warn of Possible Exposure to COVID-19 in Two Businesses

The St. Clair County Health Department has been notified of possible exposure to COVID-19 at two food service establishments in the area.

Clients of both facilities are encouraged to self-monitor symptoms for the next 14 days and seek evidence if they become symptomatic with any of the following: fatigue, cough, fever, chills, shortness of breath, muscle pain, headache, nausea or vomiting, congestion, sore throat, diarrhea, and abdominal pain.
