ABC announced on Wednesday (August 19) that the entire band will return for the next season of American idol, with Luke Bryan, Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and host Ryan Seacrest returning next year.
The band reunites for the fourth season of the show on ABC – a total of 19 – after the show was forced to change things on air during the live stages of the league as a result of the COVID -19-lockdown.
“American idol has always been able to bring people together, to entertain and to inspire – and I’m so proud of how this show kept cheering and laughing in people’s homes at a time when we needed it most, “There’s no one we feel more confident about leading us into a new season with high notes than Luke, Katy, Lionel and the easy-going Ryan Seacrest,” said Karey Burke, president, ABC Entertainment in a statement.
Showrunner and executive producer Trish Kinane added, “Katy, Lionel and Luke are fun, cunning and really know how to spot talent. Their chemistry is unintentional, and we’re glad to be back with host Ryan Seacrest to find the next superstar and nim American idol next season to new heights. “
Producers have been searching for talent through remote virtual auditions in all 50 states in their “Idol Across America” campaign.
