WhatsApp is constantly adding new features to improve your messaging experience. In recent months, the company has introduced a picture-in-picture mode, support for GIFs and stickers, and a few other customizations, including a not-so-perfect dark mode.
So if you’re tired of the same chat window as above, try these tips to customize the look of your WhatsApp account.
Tip # 1
Change the wallpaper in your chat window
WhatsApp allows you to change your chat background with your own photos, other images from the Gallery of your device and some solid colors. It is a great way to break the monotony.
On iOS, open WhatsApp> Settings> Chats> Chat Wallpaper and then make your selection.
On Android, you must follow the same process as iOS to choose a wallpaper of your choice.
Tip # 2
Bring your sources to life
Default fonts can be really boring. However, now you can use simple tricks to improve your text, and these tricks work on both iOS and Android.
You can bold font your text by placing an asterisk (*) at the beginning and end of the word / sentence. Similarly, add underscore (_) or tildes (~) before and after the word / sentence to italicize or add strikethrough effect, respectively.
Tip # 3
Pin important chats on top
In the meantime, if there is an important chat, you can pin it at the top of your WhatsApp window, and it will stay there until you disable it.
To test this feature, on iOS, swipe from left to right on the chat you want to place on top and click on the ‘Pin’ icon.
On Android, tap and hold the chat and tap the pin icon.

Tip # 4: Mark important messages
WhatsApp also allows you to easily mark an individual message. On iOS, double-tap or tap and hold that particular message, and tap the star icon to mark it. On Android, tap and hold the message, and then tap the star icon on the top panel.
Tip # 5
Enable dark mode for a new feeling
WhatsApp has recently introduced a new dark mode for Android beta users and it’s a great way to give your chat a new look. (Non-beta users can download the new update).
To enable dark mode on Android, tap Settings> Chats> Theme> and select Dark.
Unfortunately, WhatsApp has yet to introduce dark mode for iOS.
