Manchester United captain Harry Maguire was arrested and later arrested after a brawl on the Greek island of Mykonos on Friday and will be dealing with prosecutors of a public prosecutor, according to a police official.

Reuters’ George Georgiopoulos and Lefteris Papadimas reported the local police officer said Maguire had beaten an officer during an argument. He was one of three people arrested.

“The footballer was verbally abused against an officer and then beaten,” the police official said. “The three were resisting when they were taken to the Mykonos police station.”

Manchester United published a statement on the situation:

“The club is aware of a suspected incident in which Maguire was involved in Mykonos last night. Contact has been made with Harry, and he is fully cooperating with the Greek authorities. At this time, we will not make any further comments.”

The police official said Maguire and the two other detainees will be transported to the nearby island of Syros, with the allegations later made in a statement of a case file.

According to Reuters, officers arrived on the scene after a brawl between two groups of tourists.

Maguire played every minute for United during the 38-game Premier League season following his world record transfer for a defender of Leicester City in July 2019. He has also made 26 appearances for the England national team.

In July, Maguire told Sky Sports (via John Skilbeck of goal) the Red Devils were needed to make positive moves next term after finishing third in the table to earn a UEFA Champions League key.

“As a club we expect to be in the Champions League, but the last few years have been difficult,” he said. “At the start of the season, the majority of people probably did not expect us to be in the top four at the end of the season. We always had great confidence in ourselves. Next season we have to keep improving.”

The Premier League announced fixtures for the 2020-21 campaign Thursday. The season starts on September 12, with Manchester United’s first game before September 19 against Crystal Palace.
