Halo 3 is now available on PC along with Big MCC Update on Xbox; See the July 13 patch notes here


It is a great day for Halo fans. 13 years after the release of Halo 3 for Xbox 360 on September 24, 2007, Microsoft has finally brought the game to the PC. Also, the big update for Season 2 of Halo: The Master Chief Collection has arrived for PC and Xbox One.

You can get Halo 3 right now on Steam for $ 10, or you can buy it through The Master Chief Collection for $ 40. Halo community director Brian Jarrard said Microsoft released the game and update a little earlier, so it could experience some issues before the “official” release on July 14.

The big Season 2 update for MCC is 23.4GB on Xbox One, and you can see the full patch notes below, as released by Microsoft. MCC owners on Microsoft Store and Game Pass for PC will see a 20.84 GB update, while people who have MCC on Steam will get a 17.6 GB update.

The total MCC file size, with the new update applied, becomes 127.76 GB on Xbox One, 124.5 GB on Steam, and 93.15 GB on the Microsoft Store.

The update introduces Forge mode in Halo: Reach, Halo 2, and Halo 3, while Halo 3’s Forge mode specifically is getting a full set of new features.

This update also adds the new “3D model viewer” for Halo 3, while the audio issues for Halo: Reach and Halo 3 have been fixed. Also, Halo 3 gets a new skull called “Acrophobia” that makes you fly. Halo: Combat Evolved, meanwhile, earns Vehicle Skins for the first time in 19 years.

Halo: MCC July 13 Patch Notes

New Features

  • (PC) Forge is now available for Halo: Reach, Halo 2: Anniversary, and Halo 3.
  • Halo 3 Forge has been updated with new features, including Object Physics, Rotation, Coordinate Adjustment, and Precision Editing Tools.
  • The Halo 3 and Halo: Reach Forge palettes have been expanded with new items and budget increases.
  • The Halo 3, Halo: Reach and Halo 2: Anniversary Forge tools have been updated with a new “Toggle Rotation Axes” feature that adds switchable rotation around the World and Local axes. Note: It is planned to add it to Halo 4 at a later date.
  • Season unlock flow updated to feature non-linear per page unlocks and season 2 added with 30 new nameplates, 46 new H1 weapons and 18 H1 vehicle designs.
  • Challenges are now available to complete across all available titles. Note: Campaign challenges are currently not supported in Halo 4: Spartan Ops.
  • New Spartan customization 3D model viewer for Halo 3.
  • Updated Skill Rank backend for Ranked Matchmaking. This solved a long standing range reset problem and required us to reset all playlists rated to 1.
  • The “Longer Duration” range is now displayed for rotating hoppers that are no longer available.
  • The audio for Halo: Reach & Halo 3 has been updated.
  • New Acrophobia skull for Halo 3.
  • The “Dual Grip Inversion” has been added as a lever for gamers who wish to disable the title by switching the “primary fire” weapon to their left hand while double wielding in Halo 2 or Halo 3.

Xbox

  • MCC will receive an update of 23.38GG with complete installation being 127.76

Community issues resolved

Improvements have been made across the board since our last update and previous flights. Below are several new game features and fixed issues that come with today’s update and platform (Xbox only, PC only, or all platforms):

Global (all platforms)

  • Fixed issues where achievements to kill engineers were displayed as ODST specific despite being achievable in Halo: Reach as well.
  • Fixed an issue where nameplate unlock criteria would no longer display once unlocked.
  • Fixed several cases where the game client could crash during shutdown.

Global (PC)

  • Fixed an issue where “He is running a marathon”, “The Guardians are coming” and “Why am I here?” Achievements would not unlock on Steam after unlocking on Xbox Live.
  • Addresses an issue in which the campaign preview widget appears in the main root menu after a login change.
  • Fixed a crash that could occur when entering Seasonal Summary immediately after login.
  • Improved the way the Seasonal Summary is displayed in non-standard aspect ratios.

Global (Xbox)

  • Fixed a crash that could occur when searching for certain Gamertags with the Player Search function in the list.

Halo: Reach (All Platforms)

  • Audio has been updated with Waves integration, aligning closer to Xbox 360 quality.
  • Addresses an issue that refers to “Xbox 360” in the Boot Betrayer message in non-English languages.
  • Added localization for map location names in non-English languages.
  • Addresses an issue in which the incorrect key is displayed at the Boot Betrayer prompt.

Halo: Combat Evolved (All Platforms)

  • New customization support for Halo: Combat Evolved Multiplayer, including visor, vehicle, and weapon skins.
  • “New skins” can be disabled in the “Game” submenu in settings to locally return H1’s appearance to the legacy.
  • Fixed an issue where spamming the plasma gun trigger caused the sound of the charge to stay.
  • Rocket Warthog can now be reloaded manually.
  • Fixed an issue where some starting weapons were not being respected in Rat Race.
  • Game audio should no longer be heard in the background while playing a terminal in the Cooperative Campaign.

Halo 2 (all platforms)

  • Fixed a crash that could occur during long plays.
  • Enemy elites now have dual wields.
  • Fixed an issue where the Power Sword was incorrectly displaying when viewed against Flood Tanks in “The Oracle”.
  • He rebuilt the light map for the initial classic kinematics in “Outskirts” to bring back light and shadow to OG Xbox images.
  • A default gamma option has been adjusted to bring it closer to OG Xbox. This can make lighting and brightness look different from our previous patch.
  • Fixed an issue that caused players in matchmaking games to jump with grenades higher than expected, reducing height for OG Xbox customers.
  • Fixed an issue where the “Malfunction” skull was displaying HUD elements incorrectly while double-handling.
  • Infinite ammunition and grenades are now displayed with the “infinity” symbol in the HUD.
  • Fixed an issue where a controller would sometimes get stuck vibrating after exiting the game.
  • Fixed a loading issue that would cause cooperative players in the campaign to disconnect when starting a mission.
  • Horizontal mouse movement while in a stationary turret is now unbound and no longer restricted by the turning radius.
  • Fixed an issue where some dynamic music tracks in classic campaign mode were playing incorrectly.

Halo 2: Anniversary (All Platforms)

  • Fixed an issue where Sentinel Beam VFX occasionally failed to display.
  • Added 0% drop damage option in Custom Matches.
  • Players can now move while the marker is open.

Halo 3 (all platforms)

  • Audio has been updated with Waves integration, aligning closer to Xbox 360 quality.
  • Several matte paints have been updated with higher fidelity versions in Campaign kinematics.
  • The customization has been updated to support individual armor pieces and tertiary colors.
  • Emblems are now displayed on armor in-game.
  • Steps in the snow no longer appear with black textures.
  • Fixed some incorrectly lit particles when beetles or ghosts were destroyed.
  • Hornet and Brute Chopper’s spin speed has been improved to better match Xbox 360.
  • Added fuel rod barrel, sentry beam, carbine, mauler, and plasma rifle as starting weapons for custom games.
  • Fixed an issue where the Marauder was misrepresented as the Tools of Destruction Killer in the Post Game Kill Report.
  • Fixed issues where some strings extended outside of the game type target widget in languages ​​other than English.
