Habitat Hours, Special Investigation, Shinies Spawns, Rotom

It’s time for Pokémon GO Fest 2020, hereafter referred to as “the COVID”. This is a global event rather than the in-person meetings of yesteryear, and that means it’s open to anyone willing to pay $ 14.99 for a ticket. It’s a two-day affair, and the first day focuses on a rotating list of habitats, all of which come with their own challenges and additional unlocks.

Here’s what you need to know about Day 1, from special research to habitat hours, glitter, and a special Rotom look.

Special investigation: This is oddly … light. I was expecting a multi-step adventure with some rare spawns and maybe some high-end rewards like incubators and rare sweets, but apparently not given. This is an oddly direct special investigation with possibly just one exciting reward: an encounter with Gible. If you log in during the day to get this research, you can complete it at any later time.

Lucky eggs will come in handy if you’re not yet 40, at least. Credit to Silph Road:

  • Take a snapshot with your friend: 10 incense
  • Use an incense: 200 large balls
  • Catch 20 fire-type Pokémon: Charizard encounter
  • Catch 20 water-type Pokémon: Blastoise encounter
  • Catch 20 grass-type Pokémon: encounter with Venusaur
  • Battle in 2 raids: encounter with God
  • Make a new friend: Snorlax encounter
  • Rewards: 1ok Stardust, 10k XP, 2 Lucky Eggs

Habitat hours: This is strange. Since a time ago, Pokémon GO All events have taken place in local time, so things happen at different times in different places. While that’s true for the event itself, the nature of everyone who challenges at the same time means that the habitats themselves are fixed. Everyone in the world will experience the same habitats at the same time, so the hours will be different depending on their time zone.

Since this is a US website, these are the day’s habitats in EST, which may fit other American times. If you are looking for a guide on when it will happen according to UTC, check out Serebii here.

The order is: Battle, Friendship, Fire, Water, Grass, so if you live in another time zone, just complete the pattern.

  • 10:00 am: battle
  • 11:00 am: friendship
  • 12:00 pm: fire
  • 1:00 pm: water
  • 2:00 pm: grass
  • 3:00 pm: battle
  • 4:00 pm: friendship
  • 5:00 pm: fire
  • 6:00 pm: water
  • 7:00 pm: grass

For a complete overview of the spawns in each habitat, see Silph Road. Fighting has the weirdest you’ll be looking for, I think.

Rotom: Here’s a fun one. We’ve been waiting for Rotom in the game for a while now, and it looks like the little Pokemon that has home appliances has arrived in the game today. If you have a ticket and take a snapshot during the hours of the event, you will photograph it and appear on the map.

Shinies: A couple of new glitters for the event, as you can guess. In particular, we now have a shiny Unown, which means the hardest thing to do in the game right now is getting a full shiny Unown alphabet, in case you want to lose yourself in the Sisyphean madness.

  • Durant
  • Heatmor
  • Tangela
  • Qwilfish
  • Woobat
  • Unown
  • Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle with those little Pikachu visors
