Lawyers in northern Mexico say gunmen have killed a son of legendary drug lord Amado Carrillo Fuentes

MEXICO CITY – Prosecutors in northern Mexico say gunmen killed a son of legendary drug lord Amado Carrillo Fuentes.

The father, better known by his nickname, “The Lord of The Skies,” because of his habit of transporting drugs by jet, died in 1997 of a botched plastic surgery.

Prosecutors in the northern state of Sinaloa said Friday that his son, Julio César Carrillo, was found dead near a house in the town of Novolato. The murder apparently happened on Thursday.

After the death of the elderly Carrillo Fuentes, his brothers and some sons continued the drug cartel Juarez, based in the border town of Ciudad Juarez, opposite El Paso, Texas.

For years, the Juarez cartel was embroiled in a tug-of-war with rival Sinaloa cartel, which had shot in the state of Chihuahua. But in recent years, the armed wing of the Juarez cartel, known as “La Linea”, split and began to operate on its own. No suspicions or motive in the murder were immediately announced.
