San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich feels safer in the NBA campus-like environment at Walt Disney World Resort than in Texas, in part because he doesn’t have to deal with the “cowards” in charge of the state from your team.
How Jason Owens Yahoo Sports shared, Popovich addressed the COVID-19 pandemic on Wednesday during a video call with reporters and said that Governor Greg Abbott and Lt. Governor Dan Patrick have disappointed Texas with their handling of the situation.

“We’ve been all over the map in Texas, nobody knows what the hell is going on. We have a lieutenant governor who decided he no longer wants to listen to Fauci or those people. ”Gregg Popovich shared some ideas about state and federal leadership in coronavirus https://t.co/XiMQcunE6y
He particularly criticized his decision to listen to the acting president in place of Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases:
“We have a lieutenant governor who decided he doesn’t want to listen to Fauci or those people anymore. That makes a lot of sense. How safe can that be? The message is ridiculous.”
“The governor comes and goes depending on whether he has to satisfy Trump or listen to the numbers: Politics shows that it might be better if he did this because the virus has. But there is no general policy, no principle. It is of politics. It’s all about what’s good for them. And ‘they’ mostly means Trump. Because they’re all cowards and they’re scared. “
Popovich has never hesitated to criticize politicians, including Donald Trump.
In fact, he used similar language in October when he called Trump “reckless, powerless, and cowardly by comparison” with NBA Commissioner Adam Silver, according to the San Antonio Express-News‘ Jeff McDonald.
According to CBS Dallas Fort Worth, Texas reported 10,745 new cases of COVID-19 and a record 10,569 people hospitalized due to the virus on Tuesday.
“Hospitalizations and infection rates have skyrocketed after Abbott embarked on what had been one of the most aggressive reopens in the United States,” the report noted.
As for the Popovich Spurs, their first of eight seed games in Orlando, Florida is slated for July 31 against the Sacramento Kings.
