“Got Milk” has retired – should Joe Mauer be the next?

The famous “Got Milk” advertising campaign is back. The ads, which often featured celebrities and pro-athletes with milks, ran from 1993 to 2014 before retiring. With all the changes in daily life in recent months, driven by the pandemic, milk sales are huge.

According to the Milk Processor Education Program “When Americans were dealing with difficult times, they bought more milk – and not just during the initial“ stock up ”phases of the pandemic. Buyers have continued to buy milk at rates not seen in years, with milk sales in retail up about 4 percent year to date. Milk is an “essential” for household items – for milk drinkers, 80 percent of their milk is consumed at home. Alden chose to buy milk because they trusted it for its nutrition, versatility, and taste. In fact, 72 percent of mothers said milk was their number one must-have when ordering house-to-house beats, above stacks like bread, eggs and vegetables. ”

In response, and to take advantage of increased demand, the dairy industry has brought back its most famous slogan.

In these parts, however, another milk commercial from that period is more famous.

That’s right.

And, just like the people who bought milk as a comfort in sad times, many Twins fans are also trying to turn to a comforting commodity.

The fan-backed campaign to bring Joe Mauer back comes at a time when the Twins are getting a poor offensive production from both positions he once played. By catcher, Mitch Garver hits .152 / .259 / .217. Miguel Sano, at first base, has struggled in a few recent series against division rival Kansas City. This seems like the call to have career .306 / .388 / .409 hitter to go back to the diamond.

One of the people we spoke to said, “I was trying to be healthier in 2019, so I started buying almond milk. I really liked this Mitch Garber (sic) man. But with how crazy the world is, let’s go with what we know. I’m buying 2%, and it’s time to bring Joe Mauer back. “

In a message sent to the Twinkie Town Facebook account, a man named Tom also had a lot to say on the subject. The message read, in part, “Look, if we pay one man $ 23 million a year to hurt, it could be Joe Mauer, too. He’s one of us you know. This Donaldson guy, “What’s it all about? He took the money and suddenly his leg hurts? Bring Joe back. I’d rather have a lazy man I can trust to disappoint me.”

Former Twins manager Ron Gardenhire, when asked about the campaign to bring Mauer back, said “Milk? Who drinks milk? That was always one of the weirdest things about Joe. Now PBR, that’s where it is. ”Mauer’s other former manager, Paul Molitor, was typically unavailable for comment.

A Twins official confirmed, on condition of anonymity, that the team had received “literally dozens” of letters from around the Twin Cities subway, demanding that the team find a way to retire the former first general choice.

More information from our source suggests that the team headed to Mauer’s camp, and was told “No way guys, the missus would not be okay with that.”
