The Google Play Store is one of the most important apps in any phone, so Google probably keeps tweeting it here and there. Last year, the Play Store got its biggest visual overall in a short time, and this summer the app will begin launching new search filters and experimenting with redesigning the My Apps screen. In this latest test, Google will get rid of the hamburger menu from the Play Store.

Going to the three-line hamburger menu, the first present options in the side panel turn to the floating window that is accessible with the upper-right-corner avatar tap. This experimental build has shortcuts to the app library, payments and subscriptions, settings and more.

The tap on your account avatar reveals previously hidden contents in the hamburger menu.

Hamburger menus were a popular choice a few years ago, but as the screen gets bigger, many of the shortcuts once included are moving to the navigation bars and tabbed interfaces at the bottom. Google has kept developers away from using the hamburger menu until late, especially since they don’t play very well with the full gesture navigation introduced in Android 10, if the Play Store doesn’t really accept this UI sometime in the future, it will definitely win. Gone is not the first Google app to focus on menu options that are healthy for your fingers.
