Google kills its Sec 500 home security system, Nest Secure

It’s not really clear what the future holds for Google’s home security plan. We don’t know about any upcoming replacement hardware, and Google only had its big hardware event for years. In August the company signed a 4 50,450 million deal with home monitoring company ADT; The partnership will “combine Nest’s award-winning hardware and services, powered by Google’s machine-learning technology, with ADT’s installation, service and professional oversight.” Hardware like Nest Secure seemed to be a big part of the deal, as keypads and sensors are the foundation of a home monitoring system like Combo ADT. Nest Secure users were able to actually sign up to monitor ADT’s competition, Brinks Home Security, using Nest Hardware.

Sounds like that ADT deal means that Google will have to create a new keypad, hub and sensor system to use ADT, but we can’t be sure. We tried to ask Google about all of this a few days ago when we received a notification that Nest Safe was listed as “no longer available” (thank you, Bill!), But the company would not respond. Included in our email were questions about what the future holds for existing Nest Secure users, such as if they would be able to purchase more sensors or replacement sensors for their existing setups (this has been out of stock for a while) or how safe the nest is. Will support for the time being. Even if Google does not immediately discontinue software support, a system without replacement parts may simply die.

We’ve been hurting this for a while now, but Google’s continued product shutdowns are hurting its brand and making it hard for the company to believe it is the best steward of new products. This is especially true of products like Nest Secure, Google Stadia and Nest Audio Dio / Google Home, which require money to be invested in the ecosystem and functionality, unless you expect it to. Nest secure owners have currently invested hundreds of dollars in a closed ecosystem with irreversible hardware and obscure software software support futures.

The company “works with the nest” is the latest in a series of companies killing the hardware ecosystem, resulting in the removal or reduced efficiency of nest thermostats, smoke detectors and more. The company also blew up the Google Home / Nest Audio Dio music ecosystem when it shut down Google Play Music, leaving users with worse music production and completely shutting down some people from the service. Now, when Google forces people to buy games on Google Stadia or to invest in this ADT item, will anyone trust Google to continue services?
