Ghost of Tsushima is based on a Japanese historical environment, and developer Sucker Punch has invested extra effort to accurately represent the background. The Seattle-based team collaborated with Sony’s Japan Studio to work on a full location, and you can choose whether you want to play the title in English or Japanese. Additionally, the company worked alongside the Kurosawa estate to produce a black-and-white filter inspired by the director’s legendary films.
All of that effort clearly attracted the Japanese gaming bible Famitsu, as the magazine has given it a perfect score. This makes it the third Western game to receive a 40/40 release, after The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Grand Theft Auto V. It is also the second consecutive Sony-funded title to receive the accolade, after Death Stranding obtained the score at the end of last year. Of course, the legitimacy of the mag score remains highly questioned.
Fortunately, we also loved the open world of samurai in our Ghost of Tsushima review, and so did other websites.
