The Zongo Movement for Development, a Zongo development advocacy group, has touted President Akufo-Addo’s Zongo accomplishments and called for the president to be supported in Monday’s elections to continue his vision.
At a press conference in Accra on Thursday, the group’s founder and president, Alhaji Habib Issah Cissey, said that after initial skepticism about Akufo-Addo’s promise to establish a zongo development fund, the president has shown ” true faith and respect “to Zongos. fulfilling its promise, which the group says has had a significant impact on the Zongo communities.
“When then-candidate Akufo-Addo and his running mate, Dr. Bawumia, announced their intention to establish a fund to oversee the development of Zongos, many were skeptical, but some people, including our group, granted them the benefit. of doubt and backed up the promise., “
“By the grace of Allah, they were chosen by the good people of Ghana, and right after their election, the president not only created the Zongo Development Fund, but showed his seriousness and commitment by making it a statutory and adding a ministry full for Zongo Affairs, which he didn’t even promise. “
The group added: “A non-rhetorical vision is one that is backed by law, and the sincerity of President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Bawumia to ensure the reduction of the development gap between the Zongos and other parts of the country, is clearly evident by the enactment of a law to establish the Zongo Development Fund. “
“It was a clear declaration of intent by the president and his government, and a sincere move to ensure sustainable development.”
Impact of ZDF on the development of Zongo
Highlighting the impact that the ZDF and the Zongo Ministry of Internal Cities and Development have had on Zongos, Alhaji Habib Issah emphasized that President Akufo-Addo has laid a solid foundation, which will always be beneficial to Zongos.
“Now, the development of Zongo will never be the same again, and the credit goes to no one but President Akufo-Addo and his vice, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.”
“As a group that vigorously defended the proposal to establish ZDF in 2015, especially against marauding attacks on its viability by the NDC, we have religiously followed its progress and its impact on Zongos.”
“Therefore, we can unequivocally affirm that the Zongo Development Fund and the Zongo Ministry have evidently contributed significantly to the accelerated development in many Zongos throughout the country, in the areas of infrastructure development, education, professional training, sports and financial support to small scale businesses “.
“In less than 4 years, the ministry and ZDF have provided infrastructure development projects in many Zongos, such as the construction and renovation of classrooms, clinics, access roads, drainage systems, water systems, toilets, bridges and libraries.” .
“In sports, the ZDF, in 4 years, has built 10 sports and soccer complexes in Zongos in New Fadama, Madina, Tafo, Kyebi Zongo, Oda Zongo and Walewale.
“Once again, in less than 4 years of the ZDF, Zongos is witnessing the prioritization of the education of our children never seen under any government since independence.”
“Many classroom blocks are being built and renovated in many Zongos and ZDF has also built an impressive 37 ICT centers in 37 Zongo communities.”
The biggest statement that the Akufo-Addo government has made in the area of education, without a doubt, is the full scholarship that the government awarded to Cuba to 40 bright but needy Zongo students to study medicine. ”
The group also stated that it was aware that the Akufo-Addo government, through the ZDF, had awarded tertiary education scholarships to some 400 Zongos students and also trained more than 2,000 entrepreneurs in vocational skills.
“Education is essential for the development of a town and we are really excited that the Akufo-Addo government has prioritized the education of our children in the Zongos.”
“This is what development is about, not sharing rice, sugar, milk with community leaders, as was the case in the past.”
4 PLUS 4 NANA TO DO MORE
To conclude, the group said that next week’s elections are about comparing the records of the two main contenders, records that, they said, stands out for President Akufo-Addo.
“Fortunately, the two candidates from the main political parties, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and John Dramani Mahama, have been presidents before and the 2020 elections in the Zongos will be on real, visible and sustainable development records.”
“The good people of the Zongos have seen how both parties handled respect for the elderly, how they prioritized the development of Zongo, how they supported human resource development, how they supervised the annual Hajj pilgrims, among others.
“President Akufo-Addo and his deputy, Dr. Bawumia, have shown faith, commitment, respect and sincerity towards the people of Zongo and should be rewarded with massive support for further development.”
“We urge our mothers, fathers, brothers and sisters in our Zongo community to give Nana Akufo-Addo and Dr. Bawumia four more years to do more for our country, Zongos and the education of our children.”
The people of Zongos now know between the PNP and the NDC, the party that thinks of rice and sugar as development, and investment in education and infrastructure as development.
Moving forward, the people of Zongos now know which one will prioritize the construction of morgues in Zongos and which will prioritize the construction of sixteen model high schools for our communities.
In fact, the Akufo-Addo government has shown true faith and respect for the Zongo communities and our elders.
As for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, he has been a shining star and symbol of pride for the young Zongo aspirants. If he has become so attractive and popular in Los Zongos, it is because of his accessibility, humility, excellent relationship with our elders and his amazing generosity.
He has become a role model for many young people, and in shaa Allah, we will remember all that he has done for so many communities.
We cannot turn our back on that person who is so revered in the country and who has had a significant impact on the governance of the country and many lives in the communities of Zongo and beyond.
As the popular phrase goes, “one good twist deserves another.” In our current political situation, we can safely say that one good term deserves another. Therefore, President Akufo-Addo and Dr. Bawumia deserve another term.
The faith, respect and sincerity of the Akufo-Addo government towards the people of Zongo should be rewarded with massive support for further development.
We cannot go back to the dark days when the distribution of rice and sugar was considered a development.
We urge our mothers, fathers, brothers and sisters in our Zongo community to give Nana Akufo-Addo and Dr. Bawumia four more years to do more for our Zongo.
