Zlatan vs Lukaku: AC Milan forward ‘could be banned for 10 games’

Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s fight with Romelu Lukaku that marred the Milan derby is far from over.

Former Manchester United teammates head butted, literally, after Alessio Romagnoli’s foul on the Belgian.

With no fans inside the San Siro for Inter’s dramatic 2-1 win, the footage captured much of what was said.

Ibrahimovic called Lukaku a “donkey” and in return, the Nerazzurri striker called him a “son of a bitch” and said, “I’ll shoot you in the head.”

The shock got really nasty. However, a comment from Ibrahimovic has drawn particular attention. The videos seemed to show him telling Lukaku, “Go do your voodoo shit.”

Some believe it was a reference to when Lukaku was in Everton and majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri said he had visited a witch doctor and subsequently turned down a contract extension due to “voodoo”.

Ibrahimovic has since posted an anti-racism message on Twitter, while Paul Pogba also accusations denied that the Swede’s words were motivated by prejudice.

However, the matter is not over. Football Italia reports that the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) is investigating whether further action is warranted and will review the video footage of the incident, in addition to consulting the referee’s report.

So far, both players have received a one-game suspension: Ibrahimovic was sent off for a second bookable offense, while Lukaku received a yellow and has now accumulated enough to trigger an automatic suspension.

That report also refers to La Stampa’s assertion that if convicted of racism, Ibrahimovic would face a much stricter punishment; in fact, he could be suspended for up to 10 games.

FIFC President Gabriele Gravina said in a statement:

“From a regulatory point of view, the referee highlighted what he saw on the court, now the prosecutor will acquire the report to understand what the disqualifications refer to.

“If no indications related to specific facts appear, the Prosecutor’s Office will adopt the measures it deems appropriate.”

It is claimed that the referee’s report did not mention the “voodoo” comment, so an investigation will determine the intent behind it.

Ibrahimovic will now wait to find out if he faces a much more serious penalty.
