Zinedine Zidane has admitted that there is uncertainty about his future as Real Madrid coach, as he explained that work “costs you a lot.”
The Frenchman, who is in his second stage as head of Los Blancos, revealed that he will not discuss a contract extension anytime soon, and that his current contract will expire next year in 2022.
Zidane took the hot seat at the Bernabéu for the first time in 2016 and resigned two years later in 2018 before returning to the Spanish club the following year.
He remained shy when asked about his future at Madrid, as he admitted that work can be quite stressful.
“It costs you a lot, but here is a great position,” Zidane replied when asked if he would sign a new four-year contract.
I am lucky to say that I am a Real Madrid manager and I take advantage of every moment. I can’t say a month, a year, or four years. Life is about the day to day.
‘That’s what interests me: every day, giving everything I can, in every training session, in every game. That’s what interests me.
‘The rest? I don’t know what will happen in a week. So we have to seize the moment. ‘
Zidane has savored success since his first season as he became the first to win three consecutive Champions League titles and has also led Madrid to two LaLiga wins.
However, this season the league title race has been wide open after a slow start from Madrid and rivals Barcelona.
Zidane’s side may briefly take the top spot in the division over rivals Atlético de Madrid if they beat Celta de Vigo on Saturday, but Atleti already have two games in hand.
Despite this, the 48-year-old is still not overly concerned about his rivals’ advantage.
“Being the first means having the advantage, and that’s it,” Zidane explained.
‘We just have to move on. We can’t control [Atleti being favourites].
‘They have an advantage because they are the first, and that’s it. People talk a lot about Atlético now, because, as I said, they are the first.
But the good thing about this league, until the end, it will be an open league, as always. We’ll see.’
