From living in a multi-million dollar mansion to driving expensive cars, the late Zimbabwean genius “Ginimbi” Kadungure was buried with a fortune in the village of Nyamande, Domboshava on Saturday.
The 36-year-old businessman, who died in a terrible car accident on Sunday, November 8, was buried in an imported custom Versace medusa print casket.
The casket that was imported from South Africa, courtesy of Friends of Ginimbi, is priced between $ 5,000 and $ 12,000.
Friends of Ginimbi spokesperson Ronald Muzambe told NewsDay Life & Style that Ginimbi’s coffin was purchased with contributions from her friends.
“Many people wanted to buy the coffin for Ginimbi. So we decided that no one should buy the coffin and then it was bought through contributions. We thought about making him a custom-made Versace casket because it was his favorite brand, ”he said.
“After collecting the contributions, some money was used to buy the coffin and something to cover the funeral expenses. So it was a joint effort, not an individual effort ”.
The fight for the vast wealth of Ginimbi
While Ginimbi may now be below the surface and unable to make the decisions, it is alleged that the vast empire he left behind divided his family.
Some sources close to the camps said yesterday that Ginimbi’s ex-wife, Zodwa Mkandla, who could not be immediately reached for comment, was flexing her muscles to have everything in the mansion under her arm as the well-known “surviving wife.” .
“There are many problems that must be solved. Zodwa is known to both friends and family, as the ex-wife played an important role in the rise of the Ginimbi empire. Of course, Ginimbi had rich friends along the way, but it was so much of Zozo’s contribution and efforts that we talked about this million dollar mansion today, ”the source said.
“Hopefully, the Samkange and Venturas law firm that Ginimbi has always used will be able to handle this problem in a professional manner. Ginimbi is said to have had a will that then makes it easier to handle the enforcement issues of her huge estate. “
Police give Ginimbi special treatment in death
Ginimbi’s funeral drew huge crowds beginning Friday, where hundreds of people, including international dignitaries, showed up at a funeral home in Harare while collecting her body.
The late flamboyant socialite was mourned in a way that will likely go down in the annals of history as the best.
His death made headlines across borders and was a trend on different social media platforms.
On the eve of the burial, a music concert was held at his mansion in what appeared to be special treatment awarded to Ginimbi by the police who had publicly banned the concert.
The police had warned Ginimbi’s family against breaching Covid-19 regulations, surprisingly the concert went ahead even though musical performances or concerts remain prohibited.
Despite the warning, dozens of people, including police officers, showed up for the concert led by Jah Prayzah with performances by Killer T, Winsor, Allanah, Ndunge Yut and the popular group Judgment Yard.
There was hardly any social distancing at the concert and most of the people weren’t wearing masks.
A look at Ginimbi’s lavish lifestyle at the funeral
Known for his extravagant lifestyle, his friends certainly weren’t willing to dress casually, not even for the funeral of one of their own. A host of Ginimbi’s wealthy friends, local and international, came driving high-end cars.
They were also dressed in expensive designer clothes and some of the friends were dressed in white in regards to their friends’ famous white parties.
While funerals are generally sad events, Ginimbi’s friends didn’t stop at the party, gobbling up his expensive whiskeys in groups inside the mansion that only a lucky few managed to enter.
Praise
Various speakers at the funeral spoke enthusiastically about Ginimbi, describing him as a unifier, as evidenced by the number of people who attended the funeral.
Ginimbi’s ex-wife, Zodwa, said the funeral showed that Ginimbi was loved by many, adding that he was her good friend.
“I didn’t realize that Zimbabweans love Genius so much. I met him (Ginimbi) in 2009 at the airport. Genius was a gamer and would make you believe that you were the only one in his life, “he said.
“The genius was a character; I’ve never met anyone like him. When he loved, he loved and when he played, he played hard. “
He also spoke about his assets which include the mansion and the high-end cars.
“Genius wanted the best in cars. When we started to build the house I never thought I was going to finish it, I would put the tar in it and then the electricity, “he said.
“My wish is that Baba (Anderson), Julie (Ginimbi’s sister), keep the Genius name going, let’s make sure we get what he wanted. That the place remains in its state. If the mansion is to be turned into a museum or hotel, let it be for the benefit of the Kadungures “
Ginimbi’s father, Anderson, said he was grateful to his son’s friends and everyone who helped with the funeral expenses.
“Ginimbi was a man of the people. Like his father, I appreciated him last week. I am very grateful to his friends who have been with us until today, ”he said.
