Real Madrid have been linked to sensational big money moves for both Kylian Mbappé and Erling Haaland, but Zinedine Zidane has refused to reveal which of the two fit forwards is his favorite.
Paris Saint-Germain leader Mbappé and Borussia Dortmund ace Haaland have terrorized countless defenders this season and both hit home for their teams in the final round of Champions League matches.
And with his team heavily touted to attack either superstar this summer, Zidane was asked to comment on their budding rivalry.
However, his response was evasive, although he admitted that both are “very good”.
“I watch all the games and I like to see great things like any fan,” he said. “They are both very good and very young, players of the present and of the future.
‘Whether it’s one or the other, I won’t say, everyone has their own preferences.’
Mbappé found himself in top form against Barcelona in the middle of the week. His impressive hat-trick has almost sealed a spot in the next round for the Ligue 1 champions.
Haaland, meanwhile, insisted that Mbappé’s trio fueled his desire to equal his score, and came agonizingly close after scoring two goals in Dortmund’s first-leg win against Sevilla.
Reports have indicated that Madrid are eager to ensnare any of the young sensations in a long-term deal that would make them the No. 9 first-choice at the Bernabeu.
Sportsmail understands, however, that the club simply cannot afford to spend money on Mbappé this summer due to its dazzling price.
The 22-year-old’s PSG valuation is believed to be 200 million euros (£ 173 million), and Mbappé’s hefty salary package would only increase the package.
As for Norwegian international Haaland, Madrid are hoping to use star and compatriot Martin Odegaard to get there.
Mundo Deportivo has assured that the LaLiga giants will use Odegaard as a ‘trump card’ to attract Haaland to the Spanish capital due to the close friendship of the players.
Haaland’s desire for Champions League football each season will not pose a problem for Madrid, who are six points behind their neighbors and Atlético leaders.
In all competitions this season, Haaland has more goals than Mbappé.
The former Red Bull Salzburg player has 25 to his name, compared to 21 scored by his new rival.
