While Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings still mourns the loss of his beloved father, former President Jerry John Rawlings and continues to campaign to make sure he holds onto his parliamentary seat, he also had to deal with scammers.
In a Facebook post, Klottey MP Korley Constituency said that scammers are creating social media accounts in their name to solicit funeral donations from unsuspecting Ghanaians.
“The modus operandi of these criminals is to first attract the attention of unsuspecting people who really want to express their condolence to the MP, then they proceed to solicit donations for funeral arrangements,” the statement said on its verified Facebook page.
“We would also like to warn all persons involved in such activities that identity theft is a crime, as anyone caught will be prosecuted,” the statement added.
It comes with a screenshot of a private message conversation between someone and a social media account that bears Zanetor’s name.
At some point in the chat, the fake Zanetor account asked the person to send their donation to a mobile money number.
