The director of Electoral Services of the Electoral Commission (EC), has said that those who requested the special vote but did not vote on December 1 will not be able to exercise their right to vote in the general elections on Monday.
Speaking in an interview with JoyNews’ Samson Lardy Anyenini Dr. Serebour Quaicoe revealed that of the 109,577 special voters, 13,000 people did not vote.
According to him, these 13,000 electorates would be omitted from the voting list during the December 7 elections.
“Once your name is removed from the list, your name will not be on the BVD and if your name is not on the BVD, it cannot be biometrically verified,” he said.
Dr. Quaicoe said the process is to ensure that applicants for special voting cannot participate in a double vote, which is a crime.
The special voting exercise that took place on Tuesday, December 1, was not for all voters, but for specific people who sent their data to the Commission.
However, he stated that if a voter’s name was not on the special voters list, they can vote during the December 7 elections.
“If your name did not appear on that [special voter list] then you are a normal voter, you will vote on December 7 but if your name is on the special voters list then you will have lost your votes if you did not vote ”, he emphasized.
