Vodafone Ghana Music Awards 2020 winner of the ‘Unsung Category’ Akaateba Christopher Akanvarichaab aka Teflon Flexx says future artists should invest heavily in building a strong fan base otherwise they have no career.
He said that most young artists do not appreciate the importance of the people around them, who can be called their main fans to spread the wings of their musical art.
In an interview on Pluzz FM, Teflon explained that his successes can be counted by the massive support he has received from his family, friends and other music lovers who appreciate his musical style.
“Emerging artists generally focus more on their voices or their talents rather than the people who will sponsor their music.
“You can have the best talent, but if no one listens or supports you to go far, you will have no career,” he said.
The 25-year-old Afro-beat artist living in the northern part of Ghana noted that he is the first musician to commercially rap in his native Buli language.
Teflon Flexx was born in Wiaga and had its basic education in Sandema.
He attended St. Charles Minor Tamale Seminary Upper Secondary School and studied Bachelor of Social Sciences at the University of Development Studies.
Teflon’s passion for making music began in childhood. He began his career right after high school when he formed a music group called East Music which he left and later formed The Invaders, a music group that earned him massive recognition in his early college days.
He started his music professionally in 2018 with the release of his debut song ‘Murder’.
Teflon released an 8-track solo EP titled ‘Village Boy In Suit’ in early 2019.
The EP includes ‘No foreplay’, his lead single, which nominated him for the Northern Music Video Awards.
