Residents of the Wute electoral zone in the Akatsi Sur municipality of the Volta region have appealed to the government and the authorities of the Ghana Police Service to make use of the new police station in the area.
The appeal, they revealed, would reduce the growing criminal activity and other illegal occurrences in the area.
Wisdom Akpabli, the Area Assembly member, who made the appeal in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) said that the new Police post could serve all five Election Areas in the Wute Area, adding that some criminals were terrorizing the market. women, motorcycle theft among other crimes.
Mr. Akpabli mentioned Lawui, Ahlihadzi, Wute, Logote, Wuxor and its surroundings, Kpevi-Gornikope, Avadre and others as some of the places the new police post would serve and regretted the failure of the Akatsi Municipal Assembly South to fully furnish the new station after its commissioning in November 2020.
“I went and booked an appointment with the interior minister to discuss this very issue with him because the place was commissioned a long time ago,” he said.
Mr. Akpabli said they had made numerous calls to the Police Post in the past, hence his call on the government to provide the necessary supplies and office equipment after the Assembly has completed and commissioned the project.
“We are passionately calling on our leaders to help put the station to use.”
Subsequent GNA checks on the matter also revealed that the building had no furniture and non-working bathrooms, among others.
Mr. Leo Nelson Adzidogah, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Area, explained to the GNA that during a session of the Assembly of members of the Municipal Assembly of Akatsi Sur, he said that he requested a budget that covers the cost of the office equipment of the city Hall.
