Work has started on the Bolgatanga-Bawku highway in Kubore in the Upper East Region after it was washed away by floods.
The road was immovable and suffered damage as a result of the heavy flooding that was witnessed on the section.
Kubore residents had to resort to using canoes for their trips after the road became impassable.
Brazilian construction company Queiroz Galvao is currently working on the highway to meet the challenge.
Ghana Highway Authority (GHA) Upper East Regional Director, Mr. Philip Samwini, told the Daily Graphic at his Bolgatanga office that work will be accelerated to ensure the road is open to traffic by the end of the day. from today.
According to him, around 180 heavy trucks full of goods were parked at both ends of the road because they could not continue their journey, necessitating a quick repair of the road.
“This is because some of the trucks can transport perishable goods and this can affect their business,” he said.
Samwini said he could provide a better assessment of the situation before Friday, September 18, after the road has been opened to traffic.
