The merchants of Nana Akufo-Addo, a group of merchants from Accra and Kumasi, praised the first lady, Ms. Rebecca Akufo-Addo, for promoting the well-being of Ghanaians, especially women and children.
They mentioned her initiatives in health, education and empowerment of women as great achievements since she assumed the position of First Lady of the country.
The group, led by Madame Gifty Owusu and Mr. Kwame Gyasi, visited the First Lady in her Accra office.
Madame Owusu said: “No First Lady has delivered world-class infrastructure in health and education like Ms. Akufo-Addo.”
He recalled the construction of a Maternal and Child Unit and a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi and the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra, as well as the establishment of many libraries across the country.
He said that they would therefore vote en masse for President Akufo-Addo in the December elections, so he, together with the First Lady, would continue their good works for all Ghanaians.
Ms. Akufo-Addo in her response also thanked the women for their overwhelming support for the New Patriotic Party (PNP) and assured them that more good things will come in the next PNP government.
She said that “President Akufo-Addo still has a high opinion of Ghanaians, so he will do everything possible to improve the lot of all people when he regains power.”
She recounted how President Akufo-Addo had handled the COVID-19 pandemic by introducing many aid packages for Ghanaians, such as free electricity and water supplies, as well as another financial boost for businesses.
The First Lady said that President Akufo-Addo was the first African president to provide free water supplies and other incentives to his people to ease them from the hardships of COVID-19.
She also took the opportunity to remind Ghanaians to continue to comply with COVID-19 safety protocols as the virus was still contagious.
“That disease still exists, therefore we must take precautions seriously,” he said.
She said that since December 7 was just around the corner, women should mobilize to vote en masse for President Akufo-Addo and all the PNP parliamentary candidates.
He assured them that they will work together with the MASLOG and NBSSI secretariat to ensure that merchants receive some financial boost to support their operations.
