Wiyaala, also known as the Lioness of Africa, releases poignant images for a song she wrote to honor her cousin, Captain Maxwell Mahama, who was lynched at Denkyira-Obuasi 2017 on suspicion that he was an armed robber.
Wiyaala released the video on March 28, 2021 and dedicated the piece to “El Capitan and all deceased souls,” including those who lost their lives in this era of COVID-19.
‘The Captain’s Lament’ is excerpted from his internationally acclaimed album Sissala Goddess, released in December 2018. The song in Wiyaala’s native Sissali language describes how death is inevitable.
Wiyaala said, “As I was writing the song, I was picturing Captain Maxwell on the other side, mourning his family and the loved ones he left behind.”
Captain Maxwell Adam Mahama left his wife Barbara and two children Jaden and Jeremiah.
