Professor Ransford Gyampo, who speaks openly from the University of Ghana, has delved into the possible Supreme Court challenge of the 2020 election results by asking who will lead the ruling party’s legal team.
It comes after the opposition Democratic National Congress announced that it will present a petition to challenge the results announced by the Electoral Commission until Wednesday. Following the announcement, a list of potential lawyers to lead the team flooded social media.
Commenting on the development on Facebook, the political science professor said: “I have seen NDC’s galaxy of legal brains address the Supreme Court during the 2020 elections. Will the fierce and competent Philip Addison be for the PNP this time?
“Dude did not get a fair deal after his fantastic service to the PNP in the 2013 Election Petition in the Supreme Court. His understanding of the law and his probing questions were tremendous and fascinating. ”
Wednesday, December 30, is the last day of the 21 days stipulated in the country’s electoral laws for any aggrieved party in the election to file a legal challenge.
Mr. Rockson Nelson Deafeamekpor, a member of the NDC legal team, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that “After sleepless nights, we have reviewed all the pink sheets and have relevant documents to present to the Court.” .
Deafemekpor said that the Party would not seek more than three reparations in relation to the “collected evidence.”
“We will go to court. We have made it clear and certainly, by Wednesday, all these matters will be brought before the Court, “he said.
Mr. Deafeamekpor said that the Electoral Commission, the country’s electoral management body, had violated electoral laws on many occasions.
That, he said, had prompted the NDC to seek legal redress to ensure that acceptable forms and processes were strictly adhered to for conducting the elections.
“If the EC is willing to comply with the law that will put an end to the matter. It is not about declaring the seat in our favor, that is not what we are saying. What we are saying is that the EC must comply with the laws. If he complies with the law and we are victorious, that is fine, but he does not comply with the law and announces another candidate as the winner. It’s not, ”he said.
