Every week during the 2020-21 season, Sportsmail brings you a Power Rankings table, which lists the top 10 players in the Premier League.
As the stories of the season unfold, the rankings will provide a guide to form with players moving in and out of the top 10 depending on their performances in previous matches and also in recent weeks.
After the last few Premier League matches, Manchester United have been tied on points with Liverpool, while Chelsea were humiliated by Manchester City and Tottenham defeated Leeds. But which player wins this week?
10. Jack Grealish (three below)
It was a good performance from Aston Villa at Manchester United, but it wasn’t enough to prevent a slight 2-1 loss. Unsurprisingly, it was talisman Jack Grealish who was the thorn in United’s side and provided the assist for Villa’s goal, scored by Bertrand Traore, which was his tie at Old Trafford.
Unfortunately for Dean Smith’s team, they were only able to stay level for three minutes until Bruno Fernandes scored a penalty, but the Villans are still well placed in eighth place, with as many as two games in hand on some of the teams above. they.
If Grealish can help his team get some wins in January, don’t be surprised to be in a higher position in the top 10 here for the next several weeks.
9. Dominic Calvert-Lewin (six below)
A disappointing month for the Everton and England striker. He has not scored since December 5, which is quite an astonishing statistic considering he had scored 16 goals in 18 games thus far for the club and the country, an electrifying tally.
The loss to West Ham on New Years Day at Goodison Park will be especially frustrating for Carlo Ancelotti and Calvert-Lewin struggled to prevail in the game in the way we have seen so far this season.
8. Eberechi Eze (new entry)
The pressure intensified at Selhurst Park as Crystal Palace followed a 7-0 loss to Liverpool with a 3-0 loss to Leicester.
It was therefore very necessary to get back on the winning track and Roy Hodgson was left singing the praises of attacking midfielder Eberechi Eze after the 2-0 win over Sheffield United. Eze, a £ 16m signing from QPR in the summer, has been a huge plus for Palace so far this season and has quickly adapted to Premier League football.
His goal, Palace’s second, was an impressive individual effort that started in his own half and ended with a low shot deflected into the far corner from outside the penalty area for his second goal of the season in the Premier League.
7. Danny Ings (new entry)
An impressive winner from Danny Ings sees him enter the Power Rankings this week.
A goal in the second minute of Monday’s game between Southampton and Liverpool sealed all three points for the Saints. Ings reacted quicker to a clever free kick from James Ward-Prowse and sent a looping effort on Alisson in Liverpool’s goal.
It is Ings’ eighth goal of the season after missing most of November with a knee problem and it was a brilliant victory for Southampton, who moved up to sixth place.
6. Mohamed Salah (three less)
It looked like it was going to be a Christmas goal-scoring party for Mohamed Salah, who prepared for the festive encounter by stepping off the bench and scoring two goals in Liverpool’s 7-0 win over Crystal Palace.
But after that, Liverpool drew twice and lost once in three games, scoring just one goal in the process. And despite how good Salah has been overall this season, his recent form has seen a drop in the Power Rankings.
5. Jamie Vardy (three less)
Like Salah, it has been a quieter time than usual for Jamie Vardy in front of goal, but it has been a better overall period for Leicester than rivals Liverpool.
Vardy was rotated for a 1-1 draw at Crystal Palace but returned for a 2-1 victory at Newcastle. The four points for Vardy’s men mean they are sitting in third place and just one point behind joint leaders Liverpool and Manchester United.
Leicester may not be the favorite, but it’s in the mix for the top as is.
4. Bukayo Saka (up to six)
Finally, good news for MIkel Arteta and Arsenal with three wins on the rebound: the Gunners after 3-1 win over Chelsea with wins over Brighton and West Brom.
And Sam Allardyce’s 4-0 win over the Baggies drew particular attention.
Bukayo Saka underscored their brilliant potential with a fantastic display and capped off a sweeping team move by converting from close range for Arsenal’s second of the game.
Now they are in eleventh place, but only six points from fourth and if the emotions and spillovers of the current campaign continue, no one would rule out that Arteta’s men climb further.
3. Harry Kane (up to two)
José Mourinho’s men headed to the home game with Leeds after a frustrating 1-1 draw against Wolves, where Nuno Espirito Santo’s men tied in the 86th minute.
A clash with Leeds is always a banana peel, but Tottenham managed a 3-0 win. Harry Kane put them on their way with a penalty in the first half
2. Kevin De Bruyne (up to six)
What a performance for Manchester City against Chelsea. They reached a 3-0 lead in the first half at Stamford Bridge, putting pressure on Frank Lampard and sending a statement to the rest of the Premier League that they will be a major force in this season’s title race.
Kevin De Bruyne scored City’s third from close range, but his overall performance was excellent. He was instrumental in everything City did against Chelsea and, together with Raheem Sterling, ensured that Lampard’s men had a miserable day.
The victory places City in fifth place on the table, four points behind first with two games in hand.
1. Bruno Fernandes (without movement)
United’s victory over Aston Villa tied them on points with leaders Liverpool and that man, Bruno Fernandes, was once again central to the victory.
Moments after Bertrand Traore managed to level Villa with a shot from close range, Fernandes rushed forward at the other end to convert from the penalty spot and secure another three vital points for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men.
They will face Burnley in the Premier League, next week, and just one point would move United above leaders Liverpool before the Anfield showdown on January 17.
