The World Health Organization (WHO) says Madagascar must scientifically test its herbal remedy for coronavirus.

DPA reports that WHO Director for Africa Matshidiso Moeti stated this on Thursday.

“We have offered to support the design of a study to analyze this product,” said Moeti.

Moeti revealed that WHO officials had met with Madagascar’s leaders to discuss under what conditions such a study could be carried out.

The body said it was determined to test the effectiveness of the product.

“We are not discouraging the product, but we would like to try it. So when we are (making it widely available), it is based on some evidence, “Matshidiso said.

The Madagascar medication called “COVID Organics” was prepared by the Malagasy Institute for Applied Research.

It is made from artemisia, a plant grown on the island of the Indian Ocean.

President Andry Rajoelina announced that the remedy has already cured some Malagasy people of COVID-19.

“This plant strengthens immunity and protects against numerous viruses and fever and especially lung diseases,” said Rajoelina.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian government is in the process of receiving the herbal blend.
