One of the jewels of Real Madrid is on loan to Villarreal but does not receive enough minutes. Could Takefusa Kubo help the first team?
Real Madrid cannot exaggerate after the 1-0 loss to Cádiz, but they must react. Going into the game, Zinedine Zidane had to know that starters Nacho Fernández, Marcelo and Lucas Vázquez without a defensive presence in the midfielder was going to be a problem.
The whites paid dearly and did not score either, highlighting the continuous offensive struggles that, at one point, seemed to dissipate amid created chances and goals in Real Betis and Levante.
Earlier this year, in response to a terrible loss to Manchester City, Zidane recalled that attacking midfielder Martin Odegaard was on loan. He is now injured, but his performances with the club and the country have shown world-class ability.
Takefusa Kubo is 19 years old and still not at the level of Odegaard, but he is not far off either. He was named one of La Liga’s most prominent players despite not playing a significant role for Mallorca until later in the season.
Real Madrid thought Takefusa Kubo would have the opportunity to take the next step at Villarreal this season
Real Madrid wanted him to take the next step in 2020-2021, so a bigger loan deal was in order after his impressive performances in Mallorca. Los Blancos ultimately settled on Villarreal despite the interest of teams like Sevilla, Osasuna, Ajax and even Bayern.
Rather than becoming a key player for Unai Emery, Kubo has been a bench player. He has started zero games, coming off the bench in six with no more than 26 minutes played in a single game. However, he has four key passes, six dribbles completed and three fouls drawn in 81 minutes. So in a total of 90, imagine what he could do for Villarreal.
I don’t say Real Madrid should Let’s remember the loan of Takefusa Kubo, but the funny thing is that he would probably play more than 81 minutes for Los Blancos, given that he is a southpaw who can play as a right back or as an attacking midfielder. He really needs more scorers, yes, but Kubo’s dribbling skills and creativity could not hurt. And he showed a certain scoring touch in Mallorca.
It’s more likely and more logical that Los Blancos will give up Kubo elsewhere if Emery continues to fail to give Kubo minutes. Real loaned him out to Villarreal so he could play in the Europa League and take on more responsibilities with consistent playing time at a prominent club.
Takefusa Kubo would not be out of place in Real Madrid’s first team
If Villarreal cannot offer that and if Real realize that they are missing a piece in attack, I don’t think it is unreasonable for them to remember Kubo in the first team. If Lucas Vázquez can tie starts and if Gareth Bale was able to get 1,000 minutes last season, isn’t Kubo already the quality of the first team? As a left-hander, he can also fit in better on the right side than Rodrygo Goes, as Rodrygo has not been a starter since matchday one at Real Sociedad.

At the very least, the prospect of Takefusa Kubo playing first-team football after winter with Real Madrid is something Real Madrid should be open-minded to. Not likely, but if a certain storm of events occurs, it could happen.
