GH ¢ 1,500 for footballers: ‘We have done the analysis’ – NDC responds ‘doubting’ Gabby
The opposition Democratic National Congress (NDC) has said that his campaign promise to pay for local soccer if elected to office on December 7, 2020 is backed by solid analysis.
NDC Communications Officer Sammy Gyamfi said that as part of the policy proposal, any Premier League club in need of financial assistance will be able to apply for funds to remunerate its players.
“As has been the case with any other policy proposal contained in the NDC Peoples’ Manifesto, we have done the analysis and we know how much this social intervention will cost the nation and how we intend to finance it when elected,” Sammy Gyamfi said. it’s a statement.
The NDC communications officer was reacting to a social media post by a member of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Gabby Otchere-Asare Darko, who sought to mock the NDC promise as impossible.
Sammy Gyamfi had previously stated that the NDC plans to pay at least GH ¢ 1,500 monthly allowances to all players in Ghana’s elite league.
In addition to paying player allowances, Sammy Gyamfi says that the NDC will also establish a sports development fund that they will use to cover all investments in the sports industry.
But in Mr. Otchere-Darko’s Facebook post, he wrote: “A world first! Professional footballers will be added to the government payroll should John Mahama win. I hope the mathematicians are adding the costs to you, the taxpayers. The truth is that you and I both know they don’t mean it. “
But in a strong rebuttal, Sammy Gyamfi said: “Did I hear President Akufo-Addo’s nephew and Ghana’s de facto Prime Minister, Gabby Otchere Darko, suggest that this laudable policy is not feasible? For the records, the legal fees paid to Gabby Otchere Darko and her cronies under the smelly ‘Agyapa deal’ alone can pay for this policy over a four-year period, not to mention the unprecedented waste of public funds that we are witnessing under the law. obese and corrupt Akufo Addo-government ”.
Read Sammy Gyamfi’s full rebuttal below.
Comrade Sammy Gyamfi responds to Gabby Otchere Darko for rejecting NDC’s commitment to establish a Sports Development Fund to support the remuneration of local club players and promote sport in Ghana:
Soccer, without a doubt, is the passion of the nation, and a sport that has put and continues to put food on the tables of many of our countries, men and women. Indeed, Ghana’s football evokes such a deep sense of national pride and also creates economic opportunity for thousands of Ghanaians that any government worth its salt must support the growth, development and well-being of this highly valued sport.
The NDC recognizes the dire situation that our sports associations, particularly the football fraternity and Premier League clubs, have suffered in the past two years, first as a result of disruption caused by investigations n. 12, and currently due to debilitating effects. of the COVID-19 pandemic in Ghana soccer, which has been on hold since the beginning of this year.
That is why HE John Dramani Mahama, the Nation Builder, among other things, pledged to establish a Sports Development Fund to promote the sport in Ghana when elected.
Page 86, paragraph 7.6.1 (f) of the Manifesto of the Peoples says;
We will do it…..; “Utilize the Sports Development Fund to help Sports Associations provide and improve the compensation and well-being of local athletes.”
Under this policy, any Premier League club in need of financial assistance can, among other things, request funds to remunerate its players and save their careers, maintain their livelihoods and protect such clubs from downfall.
As has been the case with any other policy proposal contained in the NDC’s Manifesto of the Peoples, we have done the analysis and we know how much this social intervention will cost the nation and how we intend to finance it when it is elected.
For example, regarding the Ghana Premier League, which has a total of 18 football clubs, with an average of 22 players each, if the government supported each team with a remuneration of 1,500 GHS per player, it would it would cost the nation an amount of 594 GHS. 000 ((ie GHS33,000 × 18 clubs) each month. In four (4) years, it will cost the nation a total amount of GHS28,512,000 (ie 594,000 × 48 months), equivalent to US $ 4.8 millions of dollars.
Any club that benefits from this intervention will have to pay a small percentage of the transfer and registration fees of any of its players who obtain a foreign contract in the revolving Sports Development Fund. We believe this will be a prudent use of public funds to regenerate and boost an industry that feeds many and continues to be the breeding ground for the budding talents who continue to lift Ghana’s name on the world stage.
Have I heard President Akufo-Addo’s nephew and Ghana’s de facto Prime Minister Gabby Otchere Darko suggest that this laudable policy is not feasible? For the records, the legal fees paid to Gabby Otchere Darko and her cronies under the stinking “Agyapa deal” alone can pay for this policy over a period of four (4) years, not to mention the unprecedented waste of public funds that we’re. testify under the obese and corrupt government of Akufo Addo.
Governance is about options and priorities. While President Akufo Addo prioritizes waste, cronyism, waste and corruption, President Mahama, The Nation Builder has chosen to channel state resources towards productive initiatives such as sports development for the benefit of the country. John Mahama is honest and can be trusted to keep his promises. Deliberate naysayers and cynics like Gabby Otchere Darko, who do not appreciate the need for government to support our local sports clubs and associations because they believe such interventions should rather be channeled into friend and family arrangements for the benefit of a few, should be ignored and treated. with the contempt they deserve.
