Western Togolanders who blocked the main entrances to the Volta region on Friday morning seized 10 Ak47 assault rifles when they broke into the arsenal of the Aveyime and Mepe police stations.

“On September 25, 2020, at approximately 1:00 am, the police had information that the western Togolanders had seized the Aveyime and Mepe police station, took the staff hostage, released the inmate in the cells and they carried 10 Ak 47 assault rifles.
“Upon receiving the information, the division commander C / supt. Mr. Denis Fiakpui inchage men proceeded to the scene. At approximately 2:15 am, the information received indicates that the rebels had allegedly overpowered the police, seized the police vehicle, took the division commander’s weapon and severely attacked him and cut him down together with L / Cpl Prosper Banini, driver on duty and were rushed to Bath Government Hospital ”, said the report sighted by Starrfm.com.gh.
He added: “He quickly contacted the military reinforcement team from the Agorta naval base, who rushed to the scene. The military had an encounter with the allied rebels in Tademe and in the process shot dead three of the rebels and are currently in the Sogakope government hospital. The military enforcement team is currently on the ground in Aveyime and Mepe. Efforts are underway to transfer the injured who are in critical condition to the police hospital for further treatment.
Meanwhile, the police and the army assured Ghanaians in a joint statement that the situation is under control.
