Separatists in western Togo have ordered the immediate withdrawal of all Ghanaian security forces from the Volta region.
This follows their simultaneous attack on the Aveyime and Mepe police stations in the North Tongu district of the Volta region.
In a press release declaring their secession from Ghana, the western Togolanders under the leadership of Togbe Yesu Kwabla Edudzi II, have said that the barricades will remain on the roads until “Ghana agrees to sit at the negotiating table, with the expected UN facilitation “.
“All political activities within the new state are prohibited with immediate effect. Some radio stations are temporarily designated as Western Togoland State Radio (WTL) until further notice, and all media houses within WTL must focus their programming predominantly on WTL issues until further notice, ”they added.
Furthermore, the chairman of the Western Western Togo Restoration Front (WTRF), the political wing of the Western Togo independence struggle, has ordered all Ghanaian security forces to leave Western Western Togo within 24 hours “and no weapons or ammunition should be carried with them.”
Ghanaian police personnel within the captured area have been ordered to remain inside until further notice or to surrender peacefully to the West West Togo security forces.
They also ordered the immediate release of all those detained for the fight for the independence of western Togo and the immediate termination of all related legal proceedings.
Currently, all roads leading to and from the Volta region have been blocked, leading to about 3 km of traffic.
This obstacle, they say, is to “assert their sovereignty over the entire southern sector.
They have reportedly taken over the Aveyime and Mepe police stations by force, dominating the police officers in the process and looting the station arsenal.
