The North Western Regional Health Directorate, in collaboration with the government hospital Sefwi-Waiwso, has organized a free breast cancer screening day for residents of the Region.
The exercise, according to the Regional Health Directorate, was part of the activities to commemorate this year’s Breast Cancer Awareness month, also known as “Pink Month.
The participants were educated about the symptoms and treatment of breast cancer.
Madam Pearl Theresa Kyei, a public health nurse at Sefwi-Waiwso Regional Government Hospital, said it was the responsibility of the Health Directorate to explain and educate women about the need to regularly examine their breasts for early signs of breast cancer. .
He indicated that the breast plays an important role in human life and must be handled with care.
She encouraged all women, especially women, to visit the hospital regularly for checkups, as early detection is the surest way to fight breast cancer.
Madame Kyei identified stigmatization as a setback in the fight against breast cancer and urged society to desist from it.
“The main cause of breast cancer is not easily understood, but early detection and treatment saves lives.” she added.
Some of the beneficiaries in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) expressed their gratitude to the Regional Health Directorate and the Waiwso Government Hospital for the screening exercise and encouraged other women to take advantage of such programs to be perform breast exams.
They called on the government and the Ghana Health Service to step up breast cancer education, especially in rural areas, to save more lives.
