The minority leader in Parliament, Haruna Iddrisu, has tasked the Akufo-Addo-led government with taking full responsibility for the flood disaster that caused the death of a 3-year-old boy and the displacement of more than 900 residents. in West Mamprusi Township on Thursday, October 1, 2020.

According to Mr Iddrisu, the disaster was due to the nuclear power plant government misunderstanding the conceptualization and poor implementation of its one village and one dam policy.

“This PNP government and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia must take full responsibility and even offer an unconditional apology to the people of the communities who, by their inaction – or act of omission and commission – have resulted in a substantial loss of life, human property, and other valuable ones, ”he said.

After weeks of continuous rain, a local dam in Guablugu collapsed Thursday morning, causing four villages along the main Walewale-Nalerigu highway to submerge, while forcing residents to flee their homes.

In response, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia cut short his campaign tour to visit the victims and donated an amount of GH ¢ 100,000, among other relief items.

He also assured affected people of government support to build their collapsed houses.

However, the minority leader who was also in the area on September 3, 2020 to present relief support on behalf of the opposition Democratic National Congress (NDC), insists that the people deserve more.

He also expressed his dissatisfaction with the lack of support from the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) to the affected people in the area.

“What we should have seen is that NADMO moved in with emergency support. We gave them that mandate to manage disasters and this is something that is affecting human lives, “he said.

Meanwhile, some of the victims are calling on West Mamprusi authorities to guarantee the immediate and fair disbursement of the money donated by the vice president.
