West Ham has started talks with Jesse Lingard after Manchester United confirmed that he was free to go on loan.
Sportsmail reported West Ham’s interest over the weekend, but they must first solve the conundrum of signing Craig Dawson or Said Benrahma to a permanent deal before they are allowed to add another national loan. Dawson appears to be the more likely of the two with his call option at around £ 3 million.
United has interests from West Brom, Newcastle and overseas clubs in Lingard. The 28-year-old, who is eager to start his career and play regularly, is understood to favor West Ham, despite not being under David Moyes when the Scotsman was in charge at Old Trafford during the 2013 season. -14.
The player’s representatives began talks with various clubs in the summer, but nothing materialized.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had wanted to stay with Lingard, but after talks between the couple, the Norwegian agreed to honor his request.
The attacking midfielder has only played for the Red Devils three times this season, with EFL Cup wins over Luton and Brighton and this month’s 1-0 win over Watford in the FA Cup.
Lingard has played 210 games for his childhood club, scoring 33 times, including the winning goal against Crystal Palace in the 2016 FA Cup final.
The arrival of Amad Diallo earlier in the transfer window has further weakened Lingard’s position, with the £ 37m purchase of Atalanta who will be in the first team contest imminently.
Moyes also wants to add a forward, with RB Leipzig’s Hwang Hee-chan under consideration.
