Chelsea’s new star Timo Werner has revealed why he chose the Blues over Liverpool, adding that he wants to emulate Salah’s success in England.

Werner joined Chelsea from RB Leipzig in June despite coming so close to making a Liverpool trade due to Klopp’s admiration for him.

The German says he is completely sold on his decision as he believes Chelsea is the best place for him to continue his development under Frank Lampard.

When asked about his decision, Wener told Bild: “I think it says enough that Jurgen Klopp is currently one of the most successful coaches in the world. Of course, if he wants you for his team, you will start to reflect.

“In recent months, I have also thought of some other interested clubs. In the end, I decided to go to Chelsea with total conviction because I think it is the best move for me. I can say that I have not regretted it so far and I certainly will not in the future. “

Werner added that one of the reasons he chose Chelsea over Liverpool is the presence of Salah and Mane, as it would have been difficult to play ahead of them.

“I had to make the best decision for myself. At Chelsea, I saw that I can play right away and be a regular. With this project I can grow.

“It is an opportunity that Sadio Mane or Mohamed Salah could have seen four or three years ago at Liverpool FC. They also went there to develop in order to win the Premier League and the Champions League. That’s where I was now and of course I’d like to see that development. “

“It would be a lie to say with regard to such important players that it would have been easy to outrun them,” Werner said. “It’s not that I got there and could have said, ‘Hi, I’m Timo, and from now on I always play here!’

“I would have had to prove myself over a longer period of time, in which initially I might have been behind in the beginning. My goal is to reach the level of those players. And I see an opportunity in Chelsea. I am 24 years old, so I have to play.

“In Leipzig, I was also a bit spoiled in this regard, as I never had to miss a match when I could play physically. You get a flavor that you don’t want to miss anymore. “

The 24-year-old forward made his Chelsea debut last weekend against Brighton, assisting in a goal in the Blues’ 3-1 win.

Their next game will be against Liverpool as Chelsea host the Reds at Stamford Bridge on Sunday at 17:30 CLT.
