The Ashanti regional police command warned some members of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), who stormed the Suame police station on Saturday, October 24, 2020 and “verbally and physically” assaulted the service agents , to report to the police. no later than Monday, October 26, 2020.

A statement dated Sunday, October 25, 2020, and signed by ASP Godwin Ahianyo, PRO of the Ashanti Regional Police Command, said that the police will ensure that the invaders are dealt with by law if they are found to have acted without law.

Members of the NDC broke into the police station after the arrest of 10 suspects, who they say are its members.

They demanded the immediate release of the suspects during the invasion.

DETENTION OF SOME CRIMINAL SUSPECTED INSIDE THE KUMASI METROPOLIS

Ashanti Regional Police Command embarked on a special police operation and arrested several suspected criminals to assist with the police investigation in response to recent cases of armed robbery in the metropolis.

The Command also acted on the intelligence basis with respect to the alleged criminals whose names emerged during the investigation and carried out raids within the metropolis and arrested them.

These suspects were taken to the Central and Suame Police Stations to assist in the police investigation.

Following these arrests, some people, claiming to be members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Asawase constituency, besieged the Suame police station and demanded the release of these suspects.

They verbally and physically assaulted the police officers on duty.

The police officers on duty demonstrated extreme professionalism and managed to normalize the situation without incident.

The Police Command has seen a video of the incident circulating on social networks, of the people who went to the Suame Police Station to perpetrate that act, especially a Yakubu Tony Aidoo from NDC and others, who were seen in the video hitting the counter . at the cargo office.

Therefore, the Command is advising the persons involved who besieged the Suame Police Station, in their own interest, to report to the Regional Police Command no later than tomorrow, October 26, 2020 at 09:00 hours to help the police with the investigation, without fail.

The Police Command wishes to reiterate its commitment to enforcing law and order in the region and will not tolerate any act of lawlessness in the region, as anyone found to be in violation of the law will be treated without fear or favor. .
