The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has canceled the course scores of 2,383 candidates who took the West African School Certificate Examination 2020 (WASSCE).

Candidates’ results were canceled for “engaging in collusion, bringing strange material into the exam room, and breaking part of their questions to request help.”

This was revealed in a statement issued by WAEC on Friday, November 13, 2020, to announce the release of the interim exam results.

The council further revealed that it canceled all results of 480 candidates for “bringing mobile phones into the exam room.”

In addition, “the complete results of 384 candidates have been withheld pending the completion of investigations of several cases of negligence in the examinations detected during and after the completion of the exam.”

“Meanwhile, the scripts of the candidates from 122 schools in certain subjects are under scrutiny,” the statement said.

It added that “results withheld from candidates may be canceled or disclosed depending on the outcome of the investigations.”

A total of 375,763 candidates took the exam from 976 schools.

It represents an increase of 8.6 percent compared to the 2019 population of 346,098.

The Council noted that the release of the results follows “the completion of all post-review processes.”

WAEC also indicated that “the results of the candidates will be sent to their schools.”

Therefore, he recommended that the candidates go to “their school principals to find out their results.”

WAEC further revealed that the Council has published the “results online and candidates who wish to do so can access their results” on its website.

He also warned all “interested parties, especially candidates, to beware of fake result websites and the activities of scammers who promise to update results for free.”

“Candidates should note that all WAEC results are protected and can be authenticated.”
