The Democratic National Congress (NDC) will use “negative violence” to overturn the result of the presidential and parliamentary elections, Johnson Asiedu-Nketia, the party’s secretary general, said Wednesday.
“Negative violence,” explained Mr. Asiedu-Nketiah, was the use of ‘spirituality and tradition’, saying that the party had already consulted ‘sanctuaries’ in its attempt to seek redress.
Addressing accused NDC supporters at a rally in Techiman, Asiedu-Nketia indicated that it was clear that the NDC won the presidential election and that the party would do everything in its power to ensure that the EC verdict was turned in favor. of the NDC.
The secretary general previously accompanied the party’s standard bearer, former president John Dramani Mahama, to comfort the families and relatives of the three NDC supporters who were killed in post-election violence that erupted in Techiman municipality.
Mr. Asiedu-Nketia told the NDC supporters that they had every reason to protest the EC declaration and also celebrate the NDC’s electoral victory.
For his part, former President Mahama said he was grateful to supporters and Ghanaians in general for the confidence they had in the party that culminated in the NDC’s victory at the polls.
He struck out at the EC, describing the just-ended general elections as the worst the country has witnessed in the nation’s democratic history.
The former president told NDC supporters that they had every reason to protest the election result and yet warned them to do so without violence.
Mr. Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, National Chairman of the NDC, observed that the number of parliamentary seats won by the NDC was an indication that Ghanaians had strongly rejected the NPP.
