The ruling New Patriotic Party (PNP) has promised to pay the rent advance for Ghana’s youth in its second term.
The measure, according to a member of the PNP communication team, Nana Akomea, would protect young people in Ghana in the short term from the problem of high rents and long rental advances.
“In effect, the government will pay the rent advance for you and you will pay the monthly rent to the plan.
“In effect, then, the PNP government in its next term will eliminate the great problem of rising incomes faced by young people and indeed many other Ghanaians,” Nana Akomea announced Monday during a press conference in Accra. .
He said the next PNP government would implement the measure through the National Rental Assistance Scheme, a new, groundbreaking and revolutionary scheme that, among other things, would provide low-interest loans to eligible Ghanaian youth only to allow them to pay rent. of an accommodation.
The rent advances, Akomea explained, would be paid directly to the bank accounts of the beneficiary owners and would go to young people in Ghana in both formal and informal sectors, with identifiable or regular income.
The young beneficiaries would repay the loans on a monthly basis.
Beyond the payment of rent advances, Akomea stated that the government would establish a seed capital of ¢ 100 million, which would also serve as leverage to attract additional investment from the private sector.
“The government will implement the regulatory and operational bodies necessary to anchor the policy,” he said.
He added: “In fact, as we speak, a new Revenue Control Law has been drafted for the Cabinet to review in this direction. So basically, when this National Rental Assistance takes effect in the next nuclear power plant government, the big problem of renting in advance of two or three years would be greatly reduced, if not finished. “
