Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia says the Akufo-Addo-led government intended to make education comprehensive and a catalyst for development in all Zongo communities.
He called for concerted efforts by all stakeholders to invest in the education of children, especially vulnerable children in the Zongo communities, to bring about comprehensive development.
“We (the PNP government) are in favor of the development of Zongos and the education of our children at the highest possible level. Our vision and focus is to make education the catalyst for Zongo’s development, ”he said.
“If you want Zongos to develop, let’s invest in the education of our children.”
Dr. Bawumia said this when he commissioned a newly built AstroTurf in New Fadama, a suburb of Accra, on Tuesday, which has a changing room, a spectator booth and a fence.
The soccer park is named after the national chief imam, Sheikh Dr. Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, in fulfillment of a promise made by President Akufo-Addo in April 2018 during the chief imam’s 99th birthday.
The project was executed by the Zongo Ministry of Internal Cities and Development through the Zongo Development Fund.
“Transforming the park into an ultra-modern building for the soccer-mad youth of New Fadama and the surrounding areas was as appropriate as naming the facility after the most iconic member of the community and one of the greatest statesmen the country has produced.” , said. said.
“The construction of artificial turf and others like it in Kyebi, Walewale, Tafo and Madina Zongos is part of a broader vision of the government led by Akufo-Addo to provide significant development for Zongos and inland cities,” said the vice president.
He said that in four years, the nuclear power plant-led government had built 29 artificial turf compared to two built by the NDC government, and that only the Zongo communities got 10 of them.
Dr. Bawumia said a special talent search project would soon be launched to unearth, nurture and promote soccer in Zongo communities.
He reiterated the government’s new tertiary education student loan policy through which students would not need any guarantor to access.
Dr Mustapha Abdul Hamid, Minister for Zongo and Inner City Development, said Ghanaians were very confident in their preferences when it came to who they wanted to run the country.
That, he explained, was due to the change and transformation that the Akufo-Addo-led government had promoted in the Zongo communities.
Superintendent Hussein Abdul Rahim, the chief imam of Ghana’s police service, urged Muslims to go the extra mile to ensure peace by coexisting peacefully and in harmony with one another.
