Any government that makes World Teachers’ Day a holiday in Ghana will be appreciated by teachers in Ghana, said Public Relations Officer of the Ghana National Teachers Association (GNAT), Peter Korda.
According to Mr. Korda, GNAT has had such a particular discussion with some previous governments, but to no avail.
“Governments have come and gone, but to no avail. We hope that one day it will become a holiday,” Mr. Korda told CTV’s Anopa Dwabre Mu presenter Kwame Appiah Kubi on Monday, October 5, 2020.
“We will be grateful to any government that grants us that wish,” he said.
However, the Institute for Educational Studies (IFEST) has asked Ghanaian teachers to come up with innovative ways of teaching and learning to educate students in the aftermath of the coronavirus pandemic.
IFEST noted that while the COVID-19 pandemic has significantly added to the already existing problems facing the country’s education system, it provides an opportunity for teachers to be innovative.
“As teachers present these innovative ideas, we urge the government to support teachers with the necessary resources in terms of finances and the provision of the educational resources and digital devices needed during these times to enable them to take advantage of technology to improve learning outcomes. “The statement said.
IFEST congratulated and commended all teachers for their hard work and sacrifices to help make a difference and inspire future generations.
