The Democratic National Congress of the Sefwi Wiawso constituency of the North Western Region has rejected the election results declared by the Electoral for the area.

The party has hinted at plans to challenge the results in court.

According to the NDC parliamentary candidate for Sefwi Wiawso, Paul Evans Aidoo, the results were not a true representation of the will of the people, so they are rejecting it.

“The NDC totally rejects the complete and dishonorable results declared by the electoral district scrutineer.”

The incumbent Member of Parliament and Minister of State in the office of the President, Dr. Kwaku Afriyie, was declared the winner with a total of 29,019 votes against 28,947 votes by Paul Evans Aidoo of the NDC.

Addressing the media on Friday, December 11, 2020, Evans Aidoo said: “What is happening in the Sefwi Wiawso constituency did not happen by accident. Before the elections, we received reports of people roaming the villages warning the villagers not to vote for the NDC candidate. This was added to the blatant distribution of articles and GH50 per voter to induce people to vote for NPP. When none of them worked in their favor, they resorted to brute force, using the army as a front-line force ”.

He said that the party will deliver to the Electoral Commission a notice of judicial action to challenge the result.

“A situation in which an entire urn disappeared as if taken by a magician will not be allowed to prevail. A situation should not be allowed to prevail in which a military officer intimidates an election official into reporting uncollected results. However, as a peaceful people, we will proceed to court to challenge this shameful act, ”he added.

“We want to say that it is a faulty election and that is why we reject it without reservation, we reject the presidential elections announced by the President of the Electoral Commission. [Jean Mensa]. And we also want to notify that the blatant effort to deny us a parliamentary majority will be fiercely resisted. ”
