Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia inaugurated on Tuesday, September 22, 2020, the newly created Regional House of Chiefs in Oti, as well as the reconstituted Regional House of Chiefs of the North in Dambai and Tamale, respectively.
The creation of six new regions, according to Dr. Bawumia, has re-demarcated the administrative boundaries of the country, hence the need for the creation and reconstitution of regional chiefs’ houses for the affected boundaries.
At both events, he recalled the crucial roles that chiefs played in liberating the country.
“Our traditional authorities continue to contribute enormously to the success of our modern democracy,” he said.
Dr. Bawumia noted that the government of President Akufo-Addo recognizes the indispensable role of chiefs in the country’s governance structure and has therefore increased various supports for the institution of chiefdom, including a 100% increase in the monthly allowance, GHS support of 3.5 million. for the construction of the Secretariat of the National House of Chiefs, as well as the institution of training programs, among others.
