Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Member of Parliament (MP) for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of the North Tongu constituency of the Volta region, says the NDC is in mourning for the state of democracy in Ghana.

He said the party is very upset with the militarization of the country’s elections.

Explaining why NDC deputies today [Monday, December 14, 2020] came to Parliament in black and red attire in a radio interview with Accra-based Citi FM, which was overseen by Graphic Online, Mr. Ablakwa expressed concern about the conduct of the Chairperson of the Election Commission (EC), Ms. Jean Mensa, regarding the 2020 General Election.

“We have an Electoral Commissioner who keeps changing numbers and as we speak, we don’t know what figure she’s working with and what she’s going to publish,” he said.

He said that “the use of brute force to nullify the results of the electoral districts that we obtained (NDC)” was unacceptable and that “we (NDC) insist that we have formed a majority in the 8th Parliament and we will not accept anything other than the majority of The NDC side in the eighth parliament. “

For Ablakwa, many observation missions that monitored this year’s elections have spoken of the lack of transparency in the compilation of the results of the 2020 elections, citing as examples the observation mission of the European Union and that of ECOWAS.

Ghana’s 7th Parliament reconvened on Monday at 10 am after the general election on December 7. This follows a directive from the Speaker of Parliament, Professor Aaron Michael Oquaye.
