The Democratic National Congress claims it has won 141 parliamentary seats out of a total of 275 electoral seats in parliament.
Addressing the media at a press conference today, party secretary general Asiedu Nketia stated that this victory gives the NDC “absolute control of the House.”
He said that according to the laws of the country, the NDC party now has the power to select the next speaker of Parliament, the vice president and all the chairmen of the parliamentary select committees.
“We can report that out of 275 constituencies, the NDC won 141 and that puts us in a clear majority … our compilation so far indicates that our candidate John Mahama is ahead.”
“We hope that the Electoral Commission will come out very soon to declare him President of Ghana,” added Asiedu Nketia.
The Secretary General said that a majority of the NDC in parliament will allow its presidential candidate John Mahama to rule the country if he is declared president of the country.
Asiedu Nketia has warned the media not to prematurely announce the winner of the parliamentary elections before it is confirmed by the EC.
